Champions of local food will be recognised in new awards.

Launched by the Skye and Lochalsh, the awards aim to recognise local businesses that buy from local producers.  

Judges include Isle of Skye Fresh Produce founder, Roger Whiddon; Skye Vegetables founder, Anthony Hovey; Skye Free Range founder, Glenys Maclean; the Managing Director of Isle of Skye Distillers Ltd, Alistair Wilson; the Vice Chairperson of the Skye and Lochalsh Micro Abattoir Project, Rachael Jackson and Nanette Muir of the Isle of Skye Sea Salt Company.  

NHS Highland staff have asked members of the public to avoid visiting hospital if they have symptoms of diarrhoea or vomiting.

Ward 6C at Raigmore Hospital has been closed to new admissions due to several patients with the symptoms.


Ward staff will contact next of kin of all patients within the ward to discuss visiting arrangements.

Members of the public are also asked to avoid any hospital or care home if they live with someone who has the symptoms until they have been clear for 48 hours.


Van windows were damaged at a Portree car park.

Police say two van windows were damaged overnight in the Community Centre car park.

Police say equipment from the new skate park had been used to damage the windows.  They have asked anyone with information to phone 101 quoting incident NP4574/18.
