NHS Highland is currently advertising for people to join the Rural Support Team.
The Rural Support Team is a new multi-disciplinary model, providing primary care services in and out of hours using team of professionals from different backgrounds.
Led by GPs, the team also includes Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Advanced Paramedic Practitioners. These practitioners work autonomously to provide scheduled and unscheduled care across North Skye, Ardnamurchan and Wester Ross, often working alone in remote and rural locations of the Highlands.
The development of this team has taken the form of an action learning project. Key lessons include the absolute requirement for investment in a training and development programme for advanced practitioners; the importance of identified clinical decision-making support pathways; the fostering of strong links between in and out of hours care (including ensuring practitioners work in both settings); and the development of clear governance arrangements.
The job will require flexibility, the ability to work on call and be able to work with only remote support. For those looking to step up and do something off the beaten track, the job provides an opportunity to be involved in something quite special.
