Skye's MSP's Ian Blackford and Kate Forbes met with David Alston, Chair of NHS Highland to discuss health care provision in Skye, Raasay and Wester Ross.

Also present were local councillors with the talks very much centred on a brand new hospital for the island at Broadford.

Mr Blackford said: "In particular on what facilities must be provided by the new hospital , which should include an operating theatre.

"Beds should also be provided in Portree and I will be pressing them to provide the best possible facilities for us."

Discussions also took place about the possible recruitment of a rural practitioner or advanced GP who would lead a team ensuring that strong health care cover for the north of the island remained in place.
