Portree law firm, Inksters,  is leading by example and encouraging others to do the same by learning how to restart a heart. In doing so, they have become part of the British Heart Foundation’s Nation of Lifesavers.

Inksters Solicitors with offices in Glasgow, Inverness, Forfar and Wickare holding various winter events and fundraisers in aid of the BHF. Staff members at the law firm’s Glasgow office recently attended Cowcaddens fire station, where they learned life-saving skills such as CPR and how to use a defibrillator.

Trainee Solicitor, Evonne Morrison, said “We thoroughly enjoyed our hands-on training at Cowcaddens fire station and are extremely fortunate that this opportunity is available to us, and indeed everyone, in Scotland. It’s a great feeling to now be equipped with the skills to potentially save someone’s life should they go into cardiac arrest.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRF) have been very accommodating to our work schedules and it is something that can be completed in a lunch hour. It would be good to see others taking advantage of the service available to them.”

The SFRF are committed to supporting the Scottish Government’s ‘Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest Strategy’, which aims to save an extra 1000 lives in Scotland by 2020. All of the SFRF’s 356 fire stations act as a base for people to learn the skills required to resuscitate someone and use a defibrillator.

Watch Manager (SFRS) Kenneth Reid wants to promote the partnership between the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the British Heart Foundation. He said “We want to help to save lives across the country by offering members of the public this service. The training takes less than 1 hour, up to 20 people can be facilitated per session and it is completely free.”

If you or your company would like to learn these lifesaving skills and arrange a mutually agreeable time to visit, please contact your local fire station or fire officer. Alternatively, to arrange training in the workplace please visit
