The winning events team

 

A Gaelic language initiative staged at two venues, one on Skye,  has won the 2016 Scottish Gaelic Award for Best Event.

Skills Development Scotland (SDS) were named as winners for their careers events ‘Siuthad!’, which means ‘Go on!’, run as a partnership between SDS and Highland Council, with the support of Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) and Bòrd na Gàidhlig.

The events were held in Inverness and Skye in March and November and were aimed at Gaelic learners and fluent speakers and showcased a range of Gaelic related careers.

Organisations including the BBC, High Life Highland and FilmG attended the events, offering advice on opportunities available and how the language adds value, enhances and creates future employment opportunities.

SDS Gaelic Development Officer Derek MacKenzie said: “SDS Gaelic Development Officer Derek MacKenzie said: “The Siuthad! events were a huge success, providing an ideal showcase for the wide range of Gaelic related careers and encouraging young people to continue with their Gaelic studies.

“Scottish Gaelic Awards are a celebration of Gaelic culture, education and language. We were delighted to win for the events, and I want to thank all the partners and young people who supported Siuthad! for their hard work and commitment.”

A further ‘Siuthad!’ event is being held in Glasgow on 18 November.

The Scottish Gaelic Awards pay tribute to all aspects of Gaelic culture, education and language, highlighting the excellent work done in maintaining its growth and heritage.

 

Duais airson Tachartas a’ dol gu Leasachadh Sgilean na h-Alba

Chaidh Duais airson Tachartas aig Duaisean Gàidhlig na h-Alba a thoirt seachad gu Leasachadh Sgilean na h-Alba airson nan tachartasan dhreuchdan, ‘Siuthad!’

Chaidh na tachartasan Siuthad! a chumail le com-pàirteachas eadar LSA is Comhairle na Gàidhealtachd agus le taic bho Iomairt na Gàidhealtachd is nan Eilean agus Bòrd na Gàidhlig.

Bha An t-Alltan agus Cruinneachadh Gàidhlig Earra-Ghàidheal cuideachd air a’ gheàrr-liosta airson na duaise.

 


Chaidh Siuthad! a chumail ann an Inbhir Nis sa Mhàrt agus san Eilean Sgitheanach san t-Samhain.

Bha na tachartasan ag amas air luchd-ionnsachaidh na Gàidhlig agus fileantaich agus chaidh grunn dhreuchdan Gàidhlig a thaisbeanadh aig na tachartasan.

Bha daoine bho ghrunn bhuidhnean an làthair aig na tachartasan, nam measg bha: am BBC, High Life na Gàidhealtachd agus FilmG, agus thug iad seachad comhairle air na cothroman cosnaidh a bh’ ann, agus bhruidhinn iad air mar a tha an cànan a’ toirt cothroman cosnaidh a bharrachd dhut agus a’ cur ris na sgilean-obrach a th’ agad.

Thuirt an t-Oifigear Leasachaidh Gàidhlig aig LSA, Derek MacCoinnich: “Dh’obraich na tachartasan Siuthad! fìor mhath, agus rinneadh taisbeanadh air leth air farsaingeachd de dhreuchdan Gàidhlig agus fhuair daoine òga brosnachadh gu bhith cumail orra leis an fhoghlam Ghàidhlig aca.

“’S e urram mòr a th’ ann a bhith air ar moladh agus a-nis air ar buannachadh airson aon de Dhuaisean Gàidhlig na h-Alba airson an tachartais seo, agus tha e a’ sealltainn mar as urrainn dhan Ghàidhlig a bhith glè fheumail do dhaoine òga nam beatha.”

Tha Duaisean Gàidhlig na h-Alba a’ toirt aithne do gach raon de chultar, foghlam agus cànan na Gàidhlig, agus iad a’ dèanamh follaiseach an deagh obair a thathar a’ dèanamh gus cor is dualchas a’ chànain a chumail suas.
