Santa's about to take a dash around Portree and everyone is invited to join him for some festive fun.

For the first time this year Skye is to have its own Santa Dash, a two mile loop that will start and finish in Somerled Square on Saturday 17 December.

One of those behind the new fun event, Skye Bike Shack's Mark Crowe said: "Fifty percent of any surplus generated by the event will go to a nominated charity each year.

"For the first year that is Skye Mountain Rescue, who will also be marshalling the run"

On a specially set up webpage, where full details of the event are available the organisers add: "This year will see the first ever Santa Dash on the Isle of Skye. The idea is to bring folk together into Portree just before Christmas to celebrate the festive season in a fun and active way, whilst raising money for local causes. We are aiming to make this a regular festive event on Skye.

"Your entry fee will include a Santa suit, available in Adult, Ladies, Youth and Child sizes, race number, refreshment and mince pie at the finish.

"The run will start and finish in the centre of Portree, Somerled Square at 12 noon. The route is a fully marshalled 2 mile loop suitable for all abilities, starting on a closed section of road and progressing to off road paths and footpaths.

"Imagine the sight of hundreds of Santa’s descending upon the Square and running around Portree………’s going to be ding dong Santa-fest."

Registration will be at the Fingal Centre (Portree High School) at the following times:

• Friday 16th December between 5pm - 7pm
• Saturday 17th December between 9am - 11am

At registration you will be able to collect your Santa Suit and race number, as well as your voucher for post-race refreshment and mince pie redeemable at the Granary or Portree Hotel.
