The woman killed during an early morning road accident on Skye yesterday (June 6) has been identified.
Australian hotel worker Maddy Rice, 21, is believed to have been hitch-hiking home with her boyfriend Joe Perry when the tragedy occurred close to the Sligachan Hotel at 1.15am
Police have confirmed that a Vauxhall car was involved in the incident, the driver of which was unhurt.
Maddy and Joe are thought to have been returning to Kinloch Lodge on Sleat where they have been living and working when the accident occurred leaving the road closed to traffic for nearly nine hours.
Fellow staff at the luxury hotel there are said to have been “utterly devastated” by the incident and Maddy, who is thought to come from Queensland in Australia, was said to have been “devoted” to Joe and will be missed “greatly”
Isabella Macdonald, director of Kinloch Lodge, said: “She was a wonderful and beautiful person as well as being an incredibly hard-working member of our team and we will miss her greatly.”
Maddy’s death comes just a few weeks after 24 years old Kirsty Johnston from Portree was killed in a single vehicle accident which also occurred on the A87, this time near to the Old Corry junction, about a mile north of Broadford.
Police are urging anyone who may have information relating to this latest tragedy to contact them on 101.
