More road improvement works will mean delays once again for drivers across Skye.
On Monday 31 October to Tuesday 1 November, from 7pm- 7am on both nights the A87 Portree will see work along a section of the road heading north from Portree School Junction along Dunvegan Road. The road will remain open, however a 10mph convoy system will be in place on both nights to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists. This will be lifted outside of working hours allowing traffic to run as normal.
Then two nights of resurfacing will take place on the A87 south of Sconser to improve the road surface will take place from Wednesday 2 November and Thursday 3 November.
Due to the nature of the works the road will be closed both nights between 7pm and 7am to allow the works to take place safely.
Local access will be maintained approximately every hour or when it is considered safe to do so. Outwith working hours a 30mph speed limit will remain in place as traffic will be running over a temporary road surface.
Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s Representative for the North West, said: “These essential resurfacing works will upgrade the existing road surface at these locations on the A87, greatly improving the quality and safety for road users
“We’ve taken steps to reduce minimise disruption during these improvements as much as possible, such as planning the works to take place out with the peak tourist season and working overnight where possible. We’ve also scheduled the works to avoid working at the weekend, and have combined the schemes to take place over five days to reduce the overall impact of the project.
“We thank motorists for their patience in advance and would also encourage them to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”
Also next week from Monday 31 October to Friday 4 November, three areas along the A87 between Invergarry and Invergarry Viewpoint will be resurfaced during the daytime Monday to Friday between 7am to 7pm. Resurfacing is planned at sections of the road south of Kinlochourn, Munerigie House and at Invergarry Viewpoint. Due to the nature of the works a road closure is required between Invergarry and Bun Loyne for the safety of roadworkers as well as motorists.
A signed diversion route will be in place for the A887 and A82 via Invermoriston during the daytime. Local access will be maintained to the Kinlochourn local road on an approximate hourly basis or when it is safe to do so. The road closure will be lifted outwith working hours, however a 30mph speed limit will remain in place as traffic will be travelling over a temporary road surface
