The skye times mobile

Pelican Design is flying the nest – or, rather, leaving the converted garage which previously housed the website and graphic design company.

Co-owners, Luke Slater and Heckie Cormack, made the decision to relocate their company to Office 3 at Jans in Broom Place, Portree.  Says Luke: “It's a great base, with excellent parking, and has improved our visibility.  It feels more professional.  Plus, the ability to go downstairs to the Red Brick Cafe and pick up some Munchies and an Irn Bru is great!”

Pelican Design was founded by Luke's father in 1990 and, since then, has successfully completed a variety of projects, including designing the Great Book Of Skye 1 and 2, Gaelic school books and multiple responsive websites.

As well as a relocation, the company has also seen two new staff members join, Sorcha and Joey.  Says Heckie: “We looked for ability, but everyone has to be able to get on well and have a laugh.  That's essential, as, when we are facing deadlines together, we need a team who can get it done.  Luke and I lead from the front and we are all in the office working together.”

An essential part of the work the team does is translating other people's ideas into a tangible form.  Whether it's producing a website, a book, creating marketing designs or logos, the company works closely with their clients to create the perfect product.  “We like to build relationships with our clients,” Heckie says.  “Relationships needs honest communication.  We listen carefully to our clients needs and wants and then work to make them happen.”

Why not visit the team in their new office?  When you enter Jans, head up the staircase at the right and you will be assured of a warm welcome from everyone at Pelican Design.
