He may have died tragically 35 years ago but Skye Camanachd will this week-end remember and old friend.

It was back in November 1981 when the body of their first team captain and half back George Michie was discovered near his home in Skeabost two days after he went missing. He was aged just 20 years old.

However, despite the passing of the years the close knit shinty club continues to remember his connection with the local game and so on Saturday (Oct 1st) Skye's encounter with rivals Kingussie in their Marine Harvest Premiership encounter will double up as the play off for the 2016 George Michie Memorial Cup. The game takes place at Portree's Pairc nan Laoch.

The day George went missing he had played a friendly football match in Portree and in fact  was one of the island’s top footballers, having captained a Rangers Boys Club side as a youngster when he lived in Glasgow.
