The Scottish Parliament's Public Petitions Committee is to delve deeper into growing concerns about plans to redesign hospital services in Skye.

They now want to further consult the Scottish Government and Scottish Ambulance Service on a petition from island campaigners which have called for an Independent Scrutiny Panel to examine NHS Highland's proposals.

Commenting on the move, local MSP, Kate Forbes said: "I believe this is a positive move, as it is important that people across Skye and Lochalsh have confidence in the consultation process, so that they can have confidence in any future medical provision.

"If that means an extra few months discussing the issue I would rather that than railroading something through that would damage local trust.

"I also raised the issue again with the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Shona Robison, in person making clear the community’s concerns."
