A new optometrist has been appointed at a Portree opticians.

JM MacDonald Optometrists (part of Duncan & Todd Group) have recently appointed Jenny Dick as the new optometrist.

Jenny, who is originally from Motherwell, graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Optometry from Glasgow Caledonian University in August 2018, and has recently qualified following a successful pre-reg year which she carried out in Lanark.

As the only optometrists based on Skye, the eye care specialist attracts a mixed demographic of patients from the various towns, forming an integral part of the community.

Introduced to the world of optometry from a young age, Jenny’s interest in the industry was first sparked when she began a part time role at her local opticians.

She said: “I knew as soon as I worked at the opticians that I wanted to do this as a career, not only is it extremely interesting, but helping others look after their health was a huge factor.

“Eyesight affects our everyday life, and I’m really looking forward to see where my career goes within JM MacDonald, who are a highly regarded and trusted company here in Skye with loyal patients.

“Having only been with the company for a few weeks, I’ve already got to grips with the busy schedule and met a number of the locals. We see a mix of patients here amongst the locals as well as visits from tourists.”

The Portree practice will also offer late night openings once a week to accommodate those who work full time.
