The sun blazed down on the crowds attending the Skye Agricultural Show on Saturday 3 August.

The annual show saw over a thousand people enjoying the community event.

The event had something for all ages, including a climbing wall, inflatables, trampolining and an obstacle course and the RNLI along with the show committee were on hand with their festival food.

Skye and Lochalsh Council for Voluntary Organisations (SLCVO) organised a giant pass the parcel with 100 parcels and 3 main prizes again.  Music was provided by the Isle of Skye Pipe Band.

As well as many local trade stalls and charities, the fire service were in attendance promoting fire safety and the ambulance service were running a recruitment drive for community first responders, while Lucky2BHere provided first aid.

Competition was stiff in all classes, there was a “good display of both cattle and sheep”, said Jim Rennie, steward.

Young rider, A-Jay Sheen (below) won Young Rider of the Year and the Skye Agricultural Society Shield for the Best Turned Out under 12.

Supreme on the day Champion and Champion Sheep went to Neil Montgomery of Ose with his home bred Gimmer Cheviot who took second place at Black Isle show earlier in the week.

Reserve Supreme and Horse Champion went to William Gordon of Portree for his horse Glenhaultin Charlie. Cattle Winner was Angus Beaton of Gesto with Marjory a bought in 8 year old Simmental Cross cow.

The Donald Hen Cup for best Bird in Show went to 10 year old Callum MacDonald (below) for his female Bantam.

Entertainment in the main ring kicked off with the Isle of Skye pipe band who started proceedings with a procession from Portree’s Somerled Square and later accompanied the Highland dancers.

The Ore County Terriers made a welcome return to the ring, drawing a large crowd.

There was a Crofters Olympics which pitched teams consisting of one younger and one older member against each other in a series of challenges.

A crowd gathered to watch the sheep shearing demonstrations.
