Six extra beds are now available in Portree Hospital.
The hospital now has a total of 12 beds available, with two already occupied by patients.
The extra beds were added following the Ritchie Report, made by Sir Lewis Ritchie and a long campaign for improved health services.
A spokesperson for NHS Highland told Skye Times Online: "NHS Highland can confirm that - after close work with the Ritchie Report implementation work streams - six extra in-patient beds have been reopened at the Portree Community Hospital on the Isle of Skye.
"The extra beds – bringing the total number at the hospital to twelve – will afford the opportunity to support people closer to home, provide ‘step down’ care following on from acute treatment; and dedicated palliative care provision."
