Various events will be held throughout Skye and Lochalsh as part of Dementia Awareness Week.
Dementia Awareness Week runs from Monday 3 June to Sunday 9 June.
Events will be hosted by Alzheimer Scotland in Skye & Lochalsh in Portree, Sleat and Dunvegan in order to raise awareness of local dementia support, as well as the urgent need for more people with and without a dementia diagnosis, to sign up to dementia research.
Portree Library will be hosting an information stand from Monday 3 to Saturday 8 June.
An information table can also be found at Portree Co-op on Tuesday 4 June from 11am until 4pm.
An information table will be at An Crubh Café, Sleat on Wednesday 5 June.
The monthly Drop In Café will be held at the Dunvegan Hotel from 2pm to 3.30pm on Thursday 6 June.
Mags McGlynn who works as a Dementia Link Worker for Alzheimer Scotland in Skye and Lochalsh said: “I’m looking forward to holding our various events throughout the area to mark Scotland’s Dementia Awareness Week, to raise awareness about how we are helping to improve the lives of people living with dementia and their families across Skye and Lochalsh and raising awareness to the importance of more people getting involved in dementia research.
“We’d love locals to join us for a cup of tea and a blether. By working together, we can help make our community a dementia-friendly place where people can continue to create new friendships and continue to live in the community and feel valued and supported to live with their illness.”
With over 90,000 people with dementia in Scotland, almost every family now knows someone living with the illness. Alzheimer Scotland believes it is vital that people living with dementia feel recognised, valued and supported in their local communities to prevent isolation and stigma. By bringing people together and encouraging conversations during Dementia Awareness Week, communities are being asked to come together to support a dementia-friendly Scotland.
