Six new ambulance staff are to be recruited to work at Portree, the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) has announced.
Recruiting new members of staff will mean that Portree will move to 24/7 on-shift working, eliminating on-call, once the new staff are in post.
Milne Weir, SAS Regional Director for the North of Scotland, said: “I am absolutely delighted to make this announcement – our aim is to give patients in Scotland a first class service, no matter where they are, or how remotely they live.
“The new members of staff will be made up of a combination of paramedics and technicians. Once in place, the new recruits will work out of Portree and this will enable us to move to a 24/7 on-shift working pattern, rather than a combination of shift and on-call working – this really is a fantastic announcement.”
The recruitment drive on Skye will progress in the coming weeks with training taking place over the next few months.
