The closure of Broadford’s 24-hour petrol station has led to warnings for drivers coming to Skye about making sure they have enough fuel to complete their journey.

CalMac has advised travellers heading for Uig ferry services to ensure they have enough fuel for their journey.

Broadford Co-op’s petrol station closed for an extended refurbishment period from 10pm on Sunday (October 28th).

Work which started on Monday to refurbish the station is expected to continue until March 2019.

A backlash after the extended closure was initially announced led to a new plan for two diesel pumps to be maintained at the site, using above-ground storage facilities. The stopgap measure has cost the Co-op an estimated £140,000.

During the refurbishment period, signage will be available across Skye, showing the nearest filling stations.
