About 1610 hours today (Thursday 30 August) officers in Skye were called to an accident involving a 53 year male who had fallen from Broadford Pier into the sea.

A multi agency response was initiated involving police, Coastguard, ambulance and fire service

The male was recovered from the water and has sustained serious injuries. He was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow and is now being treated for his injuries.

Portree Police Sergeant David Canning said: "Our thoughts at this time are very much with the family and friends of this male who has been involved in an unfortunate accident.

"I would also extend our thanks to the public for their quick thinking in assisting to recover the male and providing medical assistance.

"Our enquiries are on-going to establish the full circumstances and I would ask anyone with information who has not yet spoken to an officer to get in touch."

Information can be passed to Portree police station on 101, quoting incident number NP3504/18.”
