Pupils from Sleat Primary School received recognition from a conservation charity.

MSP, Kate Forbes, congratulated the pupils on their awards from the John Muir Trust, which has been working with the children as they compiled scrapbooks and carried out tree and wildlife surveys in the local Tormore Forest.

After a two-month project, pupils were presented with their Discovery Award certificates on Monday 25 June at a special ceremony in the school.

Afterwards the Skye MSP said: “Awarding prizes to the pupils of Sleat Primary on Monday was a lovely way to start the week. The children were clearly very proud of all they had achieved.

“They presented their discoveries of the local culture, history and environment. They spoke about how they had conducted their research, with the help of local residents.

“It was an impressive feat to give out over sixty certificates to the pupils to the applause of fellow pupils and mums and dads.

“These children are the future of our island communities, and there is great cause for optimism in seeing their appreciation of the local environment.”
