A local organisation is in the running for an award.

I Love Skye could win in recognition for the transformational clean up of Skinadin Lay-By, near Broadford.  Organised by Matt Harrison, the lay by clean up saw over 10 tonnes of waste removed from the area.

Speaking about the possibility of receiving the award, Matt told The Skye Times: "I have been working very closely with the team at Keep Scotland Beautiful, specifically a lady called Georgina.  After updating her on the various stages of the campaign, she suggested that I nominate I Love Skye for a Clean Up Hero award."

Matt continued: "Due to incredible support from the local residents and business community, I have also suggested the clean up is nominated for the community award.  The general enthusiasm from the volunteers, the provision of a skip, catering and even beer from local businesses really helped the effort."

If the I Love Skye team win, they will receive an award along with £250 of vouchers for clean up materials.

Matt says they will also receive national coverage to help a new Volunteer Ranger service along.  The new service is aimed at keeping the island free from litter and fly tipping.
