A Skye primary school is one of six finalists in a learning competition.

Bun Sgoil Stafainn/Staffin Primary School P4-P7 pupils hope to renew the war memorial garden in Staffin, if they successfully win the competition.

Class teacher, Josie MacLeod, told The Skye Times: "It’s a really worthwhile cause...

"We are the only school in the Highlands to have reached this stage and we have our fingers crossed we will get enough votes!"

The competition, Poppy Places and Spaces, highlights the importance of the poppy and remembering veterans.  Staffin pupils hope to incorporate a poppy gate, benches and flower beds into their local memorial area.
