Today (Thursday 3 May) Kate Forbes MSP will raise the importance of connecting 100% of the Highlands at the Scottish Parliament.

In a Scottish Government debate on Scotland's digital connectivity, the constituency MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch is expected to call for improvements to be made as quickly as possible.

Previous research broken down by UK Parliament seats showed that Skye, Lochaber and Ross, the closest match to Ms Forbes' own constituency, has the worst connectivity in the whole of the UK.

Kate Forbes MSP said: "It may surprise most people to know that broadband is actually a reserved matter which means it is firmly and squarely the responsibility of the UK Government to deliver broadband.

"My constituency of Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch has the worst connectivity in the whole of the UK and don't we know it.

"It undermines businesses who rely on broadband to take bookings or make payments, it disadvantages school pupils who need access to the internet for homework and it frustrates all of us who need it for keeping in touch with friends and family.

"Rather than wait for the UK Government to get its act together, the Scottish Government has committed £600 million to get every house and business connected to superfast broadband.
"The Scottish Government already has a track record of connecting premises which would otherwise be waiting a very long time for either UK Government intervention or market forces.

"I will be raising the concerns of my constituents and pressing the Scottish Government to move forward on connectivity as a matter of urgency."
