A Public Consultation Day is being held on Monday 5th February from 2-7pm at Portree Community Centre by Portree & Braes Community Trust.

Fearann Eilean Iarmain (Isle Ornsay Estate) has for some time been talking with the Trust about ownership of some areas of ground in Portree.

These are:

  • Am Meall na h-Acarsaid (The Lump)
  • King George V Playing Field
  • Bayfield Amenity Ground
  • Pairc nan Laoch (Skye Camanachd Shinty Pitch)
  • Sulaisiadar Common Grazings

The Trust says the Public Consultation Day “is an opportunity for your community to take over ownership of this ground.

“Just now there is ongoing consultation with those involved directly with the above areas to get their views.

“If you feel you are directly involved in any way and we have missed you off our initial contact list please get in touch.” The e-mail is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The Trust would expect these already-established groups to continue as they do with more of a say in their future plans.

“We as a Trust would be interested in developing the Bayfield amenity ground, possibly looking to create play/recreation area and developing car parking spaces.

“Ownership of ground would be necessary for this as funding is available when you own the actual ground, not available when you don't.

“The … public meeting next Monday in Portree Community Centre where all are invited to come along and have their say” is part of the process.

“This land acquisition will only happen if the community back the process.  If not, we remain as we are.”

There will also be an opportunity to get an update on other Trust projects at the meeting.
