High winds over the week-end forced the cancellation of the popular Kyles Cup sailing competition.
And with similar poor weather forecasts for the week ahead organisers, the Skye Sailing Club, have set new dates for the event this coming week-end, Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 July.
Announcing the cancellation decision the club said: “The forecast for this weekend is showing sustained winds of F6 with gale force gusts.
It is clear that this will be more wind than several boats and their crew will wish to start in due to the greater likelihood of damage – personal and technical.
"It is regrettable, and the weather may well end up being 'possible' on the day, but with travellers and boat movements needed the decision had to be taken ahead of the morning of the event. Obviously the change of date will mean the event is not possible for some but becomes possible for others.”
