A Portree optometrist has won a top award at the Scottish Health Awards 2017.

Craig Campbell, an optometrist at JM Macdonald Opticians in Portree, took home the Optometrist Award.

Craig's desire and commitment to provide a professional service to the local community has seen his reputation grow, and his introduction of a domiciliary service for those who are unable to attend his practice has been described by colleagues as testament to his enthusiasm to provide eye care to everyone on the island.

David Alston, chair of NHS Highland, said: "I am so proud of all who work in NHS Highland and the extra mile that they go to ensure we are delivering a high standard of care to our patients.

"I'm delighted that staff have been recognised for their contribution at a national level in the Scottish Health Awards and would like to applaud all who made it to the finals and offer my congratulations to our winners. I hope they've had a very enjoyable evening."

The winners, chosen by a specially selected panel of judges, were announced at a glittering award ceremony at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh on Thursday 2 November.
