The skye times mobile

As well as being an exciting day for the over 100 people taking part in the Glamaig Hill Race, Saturday July 9 was a fun day out for all the family.  Bouncy castles, barbecues and a prize-giving in the evening made for an exciting day to remember.

The race was won by Finlay Wild, with an excellent time of 47 minutes 17 seconds.

Although the rain limited the outdoor activities, families enjoyed pelting each other with wet sponges!  Bouncy castles kept younger visitors entertained.

Visitors to the island found the excitement of the day was contagious!

The duck race took place shortly after the runners set off for Glamaig.  The prizes included a quadrocoptor drone, a bottle of Talisker whisky, a collection of Skye handmade goodies and a Justin Bieber doll.

Starting at a point further up the river, over 100 rubber ducks were "released" and proceeded to bob slowly down the river.

The owner of the winning duck received the first prize - a night's stay in Sligachan Hotel and bed and breakfast the following morning!

Refreshments were available from the barbecue stand and inside Seamas' Bar.  The Bar area was packed with racers, spectators and plenty of dogs!

The bar was also the location for the prize-giving ceremony.  Winners of the 2016 Glamaig Hill Race stepped up to receive their trophies and prizes.

Winner, Finlay Wild, collected his trophy.

Amanda Blackhall received her prizes for being the first female entrant to finish.

This year marked the very first time a "Family Prize" was ever awarded!  This prize went to the Gilmore Family!  They received a colourful picture of Glamaig.
