A couple from the Isle of Skye will be celebrating their wedding anniversary at the open water swim in Loch Lomond.

Portree couple, Jacqueline Forrest, 53, and her husband Duncan, 56, have entered the Great Scottish Swim, which falls on the day of their 28th wedding anniversary on Saturday 26 August.

Jacqueline said: “We decided to enter as we swim regularly at our local pool and thought it would be good to aim for something positive to do with our exercise routine.

“We have never celebrated our wedding anniversary with something as unique as this, so when we saw that the date coincided with the swim, it seemed a shame not to go for it.

“Our children thought we were joking when we told them about it!”

Duncan and Jacqueline will be swimming half a mile in Loch Lomond in the event, which offers a range of distances for swimmers of all ages and abilities: a half mile, 1 mile, 2 miles, 5K and 10K.

Fundraising for a charity is optional at the Great Scottish Swim, as many entrants choose to enter to mark their personal achievements or milestones

Jacqueline said: “We haven’t decided about swimming for a charity yet, but if we do, it would be a combination of sharing monies between a cancer charity and the RAF Benevolent Fund, as we have family associated with both.”

Regardless of whether they opt to raise money, the open water swim will be a fantastic way to commemorate 28 years of marriage.

Jacqueline added: “There is no competition between us.

“At the swimming pool, we go at our own pace and will probably do the same in Loch Lomond.

“We have never done an open water swim so this will be a new challenge for the both of us.

“I will be happy just to finish!”

“I think we just want to show people that it doesn’t matter how old you are, anything is achievable if you set your mind to it.”
