565 taskings in the Highlands and Islands made it the busiest region in the UK for the coastguard's search and rescue helicopter last year.
Official figures released by the Department of Transport and Martitime and Coastguard Agency covering the year up to March revealed that there were 2,594 civilian taskings.
The second highest numbers were 526 taskings in South West England and 452 in Wales.
Around 60% of taskings involved rescue or recovery, with land-based taskings accounted for nearly half of all taskings
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has search and rescue helicopter bases at Inverness, Sumburgh in Shetland, Stornoway on Lewis and Ayrshire's Prestwick airports.
