Skyeworks Gallery have issued a call for artists and makers for various exhibitions this year.
The natural-light gallery in Portree can create niche exhibitions of tiny works or showcase large canvases.
Several exhibitions are held there per year, each intended to represent a diverse and interesting collection of artwork suited to both locals and visitors.
The 2017 Submission Criteria:
Location of artists - preference firstly is for artists residing in Skye and Lochalsh, then on the Scottish islands, Scottish Highlands and thereafter radiating south and across the border.
Photos of artwork to be submitted by email for initial selection, together with title, medium, size and wall price for each.
Artwork should be relevant to the theme of each exhibition.
Artwork must be lightfast and heat resistant as the gallery has strong natural light all year round and can get very warm in summer.
Artists must be willing deliver and collect work or arrange as required. Skyeworks will not store work.
Further detailed criteria may be emailed as necessary.
Exhibitions held are as follows:
Mixed Artists continued - 5 June to 29 July 2017.
All submissions welcome. Please email photographs and details of work for consideration in the first instance. From June workshops will be offered. If you run courses or workshops and would like to offer one at Skyeworks, please email.
The Skyeworks team are looking to build a program of creative events for both adults and teens over the summer.
Time and Tide - Skyeworks Charity Exhibition - 31 July to 12 Aug 2017.
This year the charity exhibition is supporting Scottish Autism. This exhibition aims to raise awareness of amateur artists, and gives first timers an opportunity to exhibit alongside better-known artists.
There are no locational parameters for this exhibition; work will be accepted from far and wide. There is no limit to the number of works you may submit, however we ask that they are not signed on the front.
Format: 10”x10” or 25x25cm and must be ready to be hung on the wall. Cost per submission £5. Suitable canvas can be bought from Skyeworks.
Artworks are sold anonymously at a set price of £85. The buyer discovers the artist after purchase. Each art work will have a signed certification document attached to the underside in a blank envelope. The artist receives £50 for any artwork sold and the commission is split between Skyeworks and the nominated charity, Scottish Autism. Artists are welcome to donate all or part of the payment.
This year they will be running a public poll for favourite work. Up to six artworks will be printed (with permission) as a range of cards carrying the artist's contact details, with the profit from these being donated to our selected charity.
Their aim is to hang at least 100 canvases. Scottish Autism will be involved in social media, and we will be sending info to all relevant press.
