Portree and Braes Community Trust are calling for votes to earn funding from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative.

Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to local community projects.

Tesco’s Bags of Help project has already delivered over £28.5 million to more than 4,000 projects up and down the UK.

Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to vote for who they think should take away the top grant.

Portree & Braes Community Trust is one of the groups on the shortlist.

Voting is open in stores throughout May and June. Customers who shop online can also vote when you pick up your shopping. When collecting your shopping ask the driver for the relevant form to fill out.

The Trust intend to use the funding for the the Bayfield area of Portree.

Funding already secured has seen the Trust install new steps near Bridge Road, carry out ground works to tidy up the area near the water front and purchase some picnic benches.

The Trust are keen to hear from the community about what they would like to see funding used for.
