New postmaster Mhairi Cousins training with the Post Office's Paul Clark

Open and ready for business that's Sleat's newest Post Office.

For as part of the An Crùbh community complex, a brand new post office service has been opened bringing an end to an era.

For the opening co-incides wirth the retirement of long standing post mistress Flora Anne MacDonald whose family have been associated with the postal service locally for many years.

The new facility will be open during shop hours at An Crùbh.

Announcing the opening on social media they said: "We would like to pay tribute to Flora Anne MacDonald, who can now enjoy a long anticipated retirement after so many years of exemplary service to the community.

"We'll all miss popping in for a stamp and a friendly chat with Flan, who herself was carrying on a tradition - Isleornsay Post Office has been run by the same family since 1912!

"New rules mean post offices housed in private dwellings will close on retiral unless they can transfer to a shop or similar - and Flan delayed her retirement until our community-built hub was ready and could take over the service.

"More than that, An Crùbh means Sleat retains a sorting office and a place to collect undelivered parcels."

Initially the Post Office will be on restricted opening hours while An Crubh staff under go supervised training - generally 10am - 4pm Monday to Friday, closing at 12.30 on Saturdays, with extended hours from Mid May. Easter Monday is a Bank Holiday and the PO counter will be closed.

First customers of the new PO today; Paul Clark assists shop manager and new postmaster Mhairi Cousins; you'll find us at the end of the rainbow - no pot of gold, but you can make free cash withdrawals!
