Portree RNLI are £3,000 better off thanks to youngsters at the local high school.

For the team of seven, representing the local lifeboat team, found themselves overall winners of a competition organised through the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative.

Set up in Scotland by the Wood Group it aims to get school children involved in local charities.

At Portree High the competition final involved  pupils putting forward multi-media presentations to argue their cause. Five local charities were represented.

However, the overall winners were the Portree RNLI supporting team of Archie MacPhee, Sean Madigan, Liam Ambrose, Chloe MacPhee, Siobhan Gillies, Rebekah Dickson and Isla MacLeod.

After hearing the news the local RNLI made expressed their delight via social media.

They said: "Well done, and thank you for securing a prize of £3000. This will enable Portree Lifeboat crew to purchase their own night vision Monocular/Binoculars."
