The Skye Mountain Rescue Team have sadly announced the death of one of their teams, Search and Rescue Dog, Cuillin.

Cuillin, handled by Skye MRT member Tony Hanly, suffered a short illness and passed away.

The idea for the Search and Rescue Dog Association (SARDA) in Scotland was formed by Hamish MacInnes in 1965.  MacInnes was one of Scotland's top mountain rescue experts and, after visiting an avalanche dog training course in Switzerland, he saw potential for a similar use of dogs in Scotland.

SARDA dog Cuillin had helped locate a number of missing persons during her time on Skye.

The team describe the dog as a "terrific search and rescue dog who will be truly missed."
