Scotland has been listed as one of the top 10 countries to visit this year.

It came second on the Rough Guides' list of must see countries.

The travel company praised Scotland for its "wildlife, whisky and a wonderfully warm welcome," as well as its "rapidly evolving" food and drink scene.

Glasgow was listed as one of the best places to visit to experience the cuisine, but the guide pointed out that "bottles from Scottish microbreweries" were available "at even the most remote pubs."

Rough Guides highlighted the North Coast 500 as a road-trip route that showcases windswept beaches, surfing opportunities and lonely Highland bothies.

Glen Coe also received accolades from the company when they described it as "awe-inspiring."

Though not mentioned by the guide, Skye proves an ever-popular tourist destination.
